Rock history lesson of the day: 22 years ago today, Nirvana at a spot on Stewart Street in Seattle, which is now a gym and a hotel. Special trivia points to anyone who notes that this was Nirvana's only show with the criminally underrated Dan Peters on drums, .....
If he hadn't died in 1994, and had stayed alive for the years since, Kurt Cobain would have been 44 years old today.... I'm not sure if he'd be annoyed at all the folks impersonating variations of his name on Facebook, or highly amused, or maybe both....
It was on this day, April 8, seventeen years ago, that the world first found out Kurt Cobain was dead (he had most likely died on April 5, but his body wasn't discovered for several days). I'll remember the moment, the instant, forever. KXRX radio called our Rocket office before the news went public, and asked if the body discovered at his house could be his. I said it had to be some friend. There had already been so many death rumors over the previous few months. But it was true. This picture was taken just a few months before. It has always been one of my favorites because it shows what feels to me like innocence and vulnerability in someone who rarely exhibited that onstage. Seventeen years.
